Whats The Value In Your Crossfit Membership!

February 16, 20224 min read

At first glance, it is hard to see why you might pay more for a membership at a CrossFit box vs a “Globo” gym. However, there are some massive differences and soon you will start to see and then experience just how valuable your CrossFit membership is.

On average, depending on how many classes you attend you will pay between $50-$60 per week at most CrossFit boxes and when compared to a “globo” gym (which is anywhere from $10-$27 per week), it seems quite expensive. However, when you sign up to a Globo gym you are left to your own devices and you will need to work out what training program to do with no support and to top it all off, you will have to do it amongst a sea of people all wanting to use the same equipment! This can all be very intimidating, especially for newbies. This leaves you with no choice but to do a PT at a cost of $50-$75 per session and you still don’t know what to do on the other training days unless your PT writes you extra programming which is yet another expense.

You also have  standard group fitness classes which are great for a sweat but in terms of long term fitness goals and learning how to move properly for longevity, whilst getting stronger, staying motivated and crushing goals, they really miss the mark as its always a follow along program with a set track, short movement patterns and no focus on the individual. In my years as a fitness professional,  I’ve seen many people go to the gym day-in day-out and do the same thing with no results.

The body needs constant challenge to change and most people just don’t have the understanding or the “know how” to write an effective training program.

This is where CrossFit takes the cake! To get the best value for your money and to see life changing results there has to be a perfect recipe and CrossFit ticks all those boxes.

Ingredient 1: Community

CrossFit boxes have much smaller communities of people, normally in the vicinity of 80-150 members. They are really community driven and are super warm and welcoming to new people. You may feel like it can be intimidating to walk in the door but soon you will see a bunch of welcoming people who all have common goals to get fitter, stronger and improve their health! Community events are often run throughout the year to build rapport amongst members and develop meaningful connections while having a load of fun.  There is no better way to get results than to surround yourself with people who will lift you up rather than hold you back!

Ingredient 2: Coaches

All our coaches are required to be at a minimum level of competency. This is much higher than a standard PT who walks into a gym after getting their cert 4 in fitness. CrossFit coaches need to be competent in Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting, Kettlebells, Gymnastics, safe movement principles, mobility and rehabilitation. Coaches willingly upskill in their own time and at their own expense to become better at coaching CrossFit. There is a massive emphasis on class delivery and how to motivate members.  As a coach, we deliver quality instruction and demonstrate effectively to ensure that you as the client has a great experience and can learn exactly what you need to get the most out of the program whilst staying safe and avoiding injury.

Ingredient 3: Education

You will never feel lost. We break down every movement step by step.

  • Why are we doing the movement

  • How to do it correctly

  • How to progress or regress something to get to the desired result

  • How to work around any issues/injuries

  • How to improve flexibility/mobility to do a particular movement

  • What sort of loads do to lift

Basically, we want to ensure that you are progressing and staying safe and the only way to do this is to teach you proper technique. You also have plenty of opportunity to have one to one coaching as we have dedicated time in class for this!

It doesn’t stop there! We educate our members on better lifestyle choices like food, recovery, stress reduction and more!

Ingredient 4: Quality Programming

At Sagitta CrossFit, Clinton Hodgkins does our programming. Clint has been in the industry since 2012 and has trained numerous, sanctional level athletes.  He has run incredibly successful competitions yearly in the Perth CrossFit scene and took a team to South Africa to compete in the 2019 sanctionals. Clint has literally trained thousands of clients using his experience and his own developed systems. He constructs well-rounded programs that we follow each week designed specifically to help you improve, stay motivated and keep the body recovering well. You can see our latest program write up here for a better understanding.

In summary, you don’t need to think about what you need to do when you turn up to a CrossFit box. You just get to turn up and we take care of the rest!

CrossFit  has literally changed my life for the better, and I don’t know about you, but I know where I’d rather be training!
